Purpose and Possibility: Reflections from the Collaborative Real Estate Summit 2025

I had the privilege of being one of the keynote speakers at the Collaborative Real Estate Summit 2025. In my full speech, I walked through the six leadership principles I’ve found essential throughout my career:

  • Persistence
  • Authenticity
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Transparency
  • Failing Fast
  • Daring to Dream

The video clip in this article captures just a portion of my presentation, focusing specifically on the first principle, Persistence. This is a theme that has shaped both my personal journey and how I guide teams and investors through times of uncertainty. In subsequent articles, I will focus on other principles.

For those who have spent years building wealth and now focus on protecting it, persistence is a strategic mindset for navigating markets that don’t always cooperate. As I reflected on what persistence has meant in my own life, it became clear that two ideas sit at the heart of perseverance: purpose and possibility. These were the threads I wove into this part of my presentation.

Purpose As Your North Star

Early in my career, I thought purpose meant climbing the next rung on the ladder or meeting quarterly targets. Experience taught me otherwise. Purpose is what gets you out of bed when things are tough. It’s what aligns your team when uncertainty clouds the path ahead.

Purpose is the foundation of everything worthwhile.

For investors, purpose is equally important—it means aligning your investments with your goals: stable income, capital preservation, capital growth, and peace of mind for you and your family. At PPR, our purpose is clear. We aim to provide financial wellness to all of our stakeholders while also making a positive long-term impact on the communities in which we invest, live, and work. It’s why we’ve committed to addressing the affordable housing crisis, even as we pursue strong financial performance. Without purpose, growth can feel hollow, but with it, every achievement feels meaningful.

Why The Power of “What If?” Matters

Everyone has his/her own purpose. We are not all alike, but once your purpose is clear, the next step is to question how you can improve and adapt. This starts with asking yourself, “What if?”

As someone in the real estate, private equity, alternative investment space, what if we rethink how we serve our investors? What if we embrace a new technology, not with fear but with curiosity? What if we focus on building teams so inspired that they push beyond the limits of what they thought possible? What if we do something different?

Possibility begins with mindset. We’re living through rapid change, from evolving real estate markets to advances in AI that reshape how we evaluate opportunities. For accredited investors and families planning their financial legacy, today’s often-volatile markets bring unique challenges: rising interest rates, an affordability crisis, an uncertain financial market, and shifts in demographic patterns are all simultaneously pressuring housing markets nationwide. Meanwhile, technology is changing how we at PPR underwrite deals, manage portfolios, and communicate with clients.

These changes can feel daunting to investors accustomed to stable income. But those who approach them with a curious and innovative mindset find opportunities others miss. This type of attitude, combined with a clear purpose, is what sets organizations and investors that merely survive apart from those who thrive.

If we don’t question our assumptions and explore new possibilities, we risk missing the very opportunities that help us protect and grow wealth. Whether it’s rethinking how we deploy capital to address housing shortages or designing investment strategies that withstand economic shocks, innovation starts with the courage to question the status quo.

Gratitude and A Challenge

Standing before a room of committed professionals, many of whom are seasoned investors or industry leaders, was both a privilege and a reminder that our industry isn’t just about transactions or spreadsheets—it’s about the people we serve, the colleagues we support, and the communities we impact. I’d like to extend my gratitude to the organizers and every attendee who made this event such a dynamic, thoughtful space to share and learn.

I’ll leave you with the same challenge I left the room at the conference with: Ask yourself, “What if?”

Don’t wait for perfect conditions to take action. Progress, whether in business or leadership, belongs to those willing to question the status quo and build a better way forward.
